Known by many
names (Khamsa, Hamesh, Hand of Fatima, Hand
of Miriam), this ancient folkloric decorative amulet is common
to Jew and Arab alike throughout the Middle East and North Africa.
It is hung at an entryway as a good luck sign, for magical protection
from the Evil Eye, to draw positive energy, happiness, health,
and wealth. Its shape and semitic name (meaning five) symbolize
the Creator's protective hand.
Each Khamsa
is a unique ceramic creation, mounted on masonite and trimmed
with beads, stones, and findings.
